Economy – The Private sector adds a meager 114,000 jobs, but unemployment goes down to 7.8%. This will be viewed as positive and a step in the right direction, but it is unclear how unemployment can drop so much with the addition of so few jobs.
Campaign – A new Obama ad claims Romney supported “sweatshop” conditions in China. Let’s add this to the list of other Obama claims that Romney is murderer and felon. Another Obama ad targeting women says “vote like your lady parts depend on it”. If that is not bad enough, the man who picks up Romney’s trash in California is used in another union ad. In other news, a 2007 video of President Obama has resurfaced where he race baits and has nothing but compliments for his former pastor Jeremiah Wright.
Voter ID - A Pennsylvania judge blocked the state from enforcing its strict voter ID law before the presidential election, citing "disenfranchisement" concerns.
Border security - A U.S. Border Patrol agent was killed and another wounded in a shooting near the U.S.-Mexico border in Arizona. From fiscal 2008 to fiscal 2011, according to the U.S. Treasury, the federal government increased spending on foreign aid by 80 percent and, in fiscal 2011, spent 76 percent more on foreign aid than it did securing the borders of the United States.
Libya - House investigators warned Secretary of State Hillary Clinton to expect a hearing into their finding that American staff at the U.S. Embassy in Libya had their request for additional security denied by Washington officials. In fact, security remains so bad that the U.S. has pulled out its entire staff from the unstable country.
Gitmo – There have been more discussion that the US will move enemy combatants from Gitmo to a prison in Illinois.
Warn Act – The Obama administration is violating the Warn Act (Must give defense contractors 60 day notice before they are laid off) so it does not affect his reelection campaign. If the defense contractors are sued for noncompliance to the law, the administration will pay for their legal fees to fight any protests.
Unemployment – Nearly 2,400 millionaires received unemployment benefits in 2009.
Birthrate – The CDC released data indicating that the birthrate in 2011 was the lowest it has been since 1998.
Debate – No question Romney won the first debate, even most liberals agree. This is exactly what happens when our leader avoids tough press conferences and campaigns, plays golf, and yucks it up on talk show TV. A big complaint on the left was how Romney spoke over the moderator to get more time to respond to Obama. They felt the moderator lost control of the debate, but the fact is that Obama spoke for nearly 5 minutes more than Romney. Romney was right to fight to get his talk time. According to a CNN poll Romney won the debate 67% to 25% - the biggest margin in a presidential debate since 1984. Al Gore, however, had the best reason for Obama’s poor performance – the altitude!

ReplyDeleteSo how do you think the second debate will go?
I think even a draw for Romney would be good. He just has to overturn all those negative ads that paint him as a monster. That said, hopefully Obama will not behave like a child as Biden did. I do not understand how the public views that performance by Biden as acceptable, or even Presidential. If a kid behaved liked that they would be put in time out.
ReplyDeleteI agree 100% Patrick.
